As our friends are aware, the Hannah Center sponsors a very special area in the cemetary dedicated to those who have lost a child. The birth of a child is an event that can be described as life-changing. This tiny bit of humanity, a sign of love between two people, a sign of hope, a sign of purpose, is a beloved treasure to be cherished and protected. The loss of a child is an event that is life altering in another way, for it may seem that the entire universe has conspired in taking this loved one away. All too human, finite, we struggle with the why, needing an answer for this loss. From our very beginnings, the Hannah Center has held great compassion for all men and women, mothers and fathers, who suffer this great loss. The Healing Place has been sheltered in Marshfield’s City Cemetery for more than ten years, offering a hidden place, a place of remembrance, a tangible space where a child is not forgotten. The decorative stone placed at the Healing Place features an angel and the inscription, “He will heal the broken-hearted”, inspiring words which are found as an ongoing theme throughout the Old and New Testament. A lovely solar fountain has been added recently; providing the soothing sound of water among the foliage and flora. Smooth stones of varying shapes may be taken from their earthenware container, placed in the fountain or taken with you as a keepsake. As part of our ongoing plans for this place, we now offer, to anyone, the option of remembering a beloved child in this space. Beveled glass, etched with the child’s name and a date may be requested from Hannah Center personnel, and will be placed at the Healing Place in memory of a special infant or small child. We have been encouraged by those who visit the Healing Place, who express their wish and gratitude for a tangible remembrance of this special little being who graced their lives for such a brief time. Our expectation is that the Healing Place may bring hope and joy into lives which will never be the same. Please feel free to contact the Hannah Center for more information. You may call 715 387-6300 or stop in and speak with our staff. Our e-mail address is hannahcenter@tznet.com. Suggested donation is $5 to defray the cost of each memorial, although no one will be denied if cost is a factor. |
